What formats of maps can I use via Galileo? sqliteb, what else?

Response from the site administrator
molind, 17.12.2011
our map format is identical to RMaps sqlite, and BigPlatet sqlite map formats. so any of these maps will work in Galileo.

File extension should be "sqlitedb".

GPS tracking or recording not working when I open the app while not connected to a network.

I got the app in my iPod and bought the All-in-One Feature Pack. I have the iPod paired with an external GPS and it does work when Galileo opens up as long as I'm connected to a wireless connection and it allows it to register with the server. I...

Can't un-focus a bookmark

If a bookmark is touched, it will display the name of it. It can block a large part of the screen if the name is long, and the only way to get rid of it is touching another bookmark. Perhaps touching it again should remove the textbox?
Response from the site administrator
molind, 25.01.2012
Just tap on the map pin again. It will disappear. If it doesn't - please send exported bookmark + screenshot to info@galileo-app.com. I'll check what wrong with it.

External GPS receiver and import tracks for navigation

1. Is support GPS receiver to located the positions ? For example: roqyBT + Bluetooth GPS receiver + Galileo on iPad2 (WiFi). 2. May I import gpx or other file format for navigation ?
Response from the site administrator
Yulia, 14.04.2012
Hi, thanks for your questions!
1. In general Galileo app supports the work with external GPS receivers, but we didn't test each of them. And roqyBT is reported to work with app.
Have you already tried it?
2. Check out new version 2.1+ of Galileo Offline Maps app. Now it possible to import KML files into the app. Read more:

Good day, Is there a German aid Datei. I the complete feature set was loaded. What does the red dot in the left corner? translated by Google

Response from the site administrator
Yulia, 01.03.2012
Hi, it's the “GPS Track Recording” feature (works in case you have activated this advanced feature, i.e. in-app purchase) that allows to visualize and record your movements on map. Even in background mode if supported by firmware and while screen is locked.

Just tap on red-circle icon once to start recording and tap again to stop recording.

The following detailed statistics are available for a recorded track:
* duration - total trip elapsed time
* distance - total distance
* avg. speed - average speed while recording the track
*max. speed - maximum speed on tracks
You can save your recorded GPS tracks to KML, GPX, CSV common formats and share them with someone via email.

The app keeps crashing/closing on its own when I select/deselect multiple tracks (previously recorded) to show/hide on the display. (I am using an iPad with iOS 5.0.1)

In-App Purchases in Galileo Offline Maps are items that only require you to purchase them once, and can be transferred to multiple devices authorized with the same iTunes Store account.  So it's no way to restore "All-in-One Pack" on another device with another Apple ID for free.

OpenStreetMap is a free editable map of the whole world. It is made by people like you.
It allows you to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way from anywhere on Earth.
So you can report any discovered error yourself at http://openstreetbugs.schokokeks.org

Just leave a short message on the map if something is missing or obviously wrong, like "oneway in wrong direction" or "bridge or level_crossing?".

Can we zoom the map while tha map is in the orientation of the compass of the phone?

Response from the site administrator
Yulia, 14.03.2012
Hi, it's possible to zoom-in with one finger double-tap in 'compass' mode which provides you with angled view of the area around you, oriented in the direction in which you're facing or moving.
But 'track' and 'compas' modes will be reseted while zooming with two fingers.

Response from the site administrator
Yulia, 04.04.2012
If you lose your in-app purchases because Galileo Offline Maps was reinstalled (or you want to transfer it to another your IOS device), you may be able to restore it for free.
To activate them again, simply select "restore" option at the top right corner on More Features screen within the installed app and use the same Apple ID account name as for the original in-app purchase.

What is your view on the percieved over-use of

What is your view of the percieved over-loading of the map servers as noted in the OSM wiki? see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mobile_Atlas_Creator
Response from the site administrator
Yulia, 21.04.2012
Surely, we understand that active downloading of map tiles overloads OSM servers. That's why we don't allow our users to download a huge map areas directly from the app and provide with the several alternative online map sources such as: CloudMade maps, MapQuest, OpenStreetMap, OpenCycleMap and OpenStreetBrowser.
Moreover, we recommend our users to exchange the prepared offline maps between each other in order to reduce the loading.
In future we plan to come out with the vector rendering within the app.

Please specify what filetype or extention its enable for Galileo reading

I have find many pages with pregenerated maps but I dont know what filetype its the necesary for import into galileo, cant you specify if the app is complatible with SVG, XML or what file type into the description or some in-app help?
Response from the site administrator
Yulia, 12.04.2012
Galileo Offline Maps supports files in .sqlitedb format (the same as for RMaps).
Read more how to create offline maps using MOBAC here: http://galileo-app.com/blog/import-offline-maps-guide.html

But there are a lot of other tools, that allows you to convert map files to this format too. E.g. MAPC2MAPC program for Windows - http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/
